Chandigarh: Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Prof. Raj Kumar has hailed the technology driven systems of online education initiated by the Government during COVID-19 pandemic. He said that even during the nationwide lockdown, the government is ensuring that education of students does not suffer and these initiatives will not only make Indian youth educated but also make them capable and competent to tackle crisis with technology in the long run.

In a press statement issued here today, Prof. Raj Kumar stated that addition of 200 new textbooks to e-Paathshaala and also the addition of 12 channels to the SWAYAM PRABHA DTH channels to support and reach those who do not have access to the internet is a remarkable step in the effort to pledge that education must reach to the ground level and also in rural areas. It is pertinent to mention here that the government has also ensured that the coordination with the Indian states to share 4 hours air-time daily on the SWAYAM PRABHA channels to telecast their education related contents. 

Prof. Kumar appreciated that the provision made for telecast of live interactive sessions on these channels with experts from home through Skype besides the tie up with private DTH operators like Tata Sky and Airtel to air educational video content to enhance the reach of these channels.
 
61 crore hits on the DIKSHA platform in a short span from 24th March till date is self evident of the fact that the students are deriving benefits of the initiatives of the Government, added Prof. Kumar.

Further, Prof. Kumar hoped that an initiative for psychosocial support of students, teachers and families for mental health and emotional wellbeing through the launch of the Manodarpan will add holistic component in this direction. He also expressed his gratitude towards the PM Narendra Modi and the Union HRD Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank for taking special interest and initiatives to boost the education sector besides pushing starts up and innovations activities.
