In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) has arrested an alleged drug smuggler and recovered 3.540 kg heroin from his possession. Two .30 bore pistols and four live cartridges were later seized from his residence.

Ferozepur, August 3, 2026: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) has arrested an alleged drug smuggler and recovered 3.540 kg heroin from his possession. Two .30 bore pistols and four live cartridges were later seized from his residence.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh said the CIA team acted on a specific input and laid a trap near a Durgah on the Ferozepur-Fazilka road, where the accused, identified as Gurjeet Singh alias Jeeta, a resident of Khai Pheme Ke village, was apprehended.
The SSP said the heroin was recovered during the search of the accused, following which a case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered at Sadar police station (FIR No. 261).
During subsequent raids at the accused's residence, the police recovered two .30 bore pistols along with four live cartridges, he added.
Police records reveal that Gurjeet Singh is a repeat offender and has already been booked in three separate NDPS cases registered at Sadar, Cantt and Suratgarh (Rajasthan) police stations. He is also wanted in another NDPS case registered at City police station in connection with the recovery of 4.254 kg heroin (FIR No. 182).
Reiterating the district police's commitment to curb the drug menace, SSP Bhupinder Singh said strict vigil is being maintained on drug smugglers and other anti-social elements, adding that stern action would continue against those involved in narcotics trafficking.
Notably, on July 15, the CIA had arrested two alleged smugglers and recovered Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) worth Rs 17.35 lakh during another operation.
