Ludhiana, March 20, 2023: A 10 bedded Drug Resistance Tuberculosis Ward (DRTB) Ward was inaugurated by Dr Hitinder Kaur Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana and Dr Rajesh Bhaskar, State TB Officer, Punjab.

Other present on the occasion were Dr Ashish Chawla, District TB Officer, Ludhiana, Principal Dr Sandeep Puri, Medical Supdts Dr Sandeep Sharma & Dr Ashwani K Chaudhary, Dean Academics Dr Sandeep Kaushal, Dr Veenu Gupta Professor and Head Department of Microbiology, and Faculty members including Dr Sarit Sharma (STF Chairperson), Dr Akashdeep Singh, HOD Pulmonary Medicine, Nodal officers Dr Mahesh Satija & Dr Harmeet Singh Dhooria, Dr Anil Kashyap, Dr Vikram Gupta, Dr Priya Bansal , Dr Pranjl Sharma and Dr Amandeep Singh.

In his message, Prem Kumar Gupta, said that DMCH is always committed to provide the best medical facilities to the patients. Further Gupta said that, this DRTB ward will provide specialized care to the TB Patients.

Principal, Dr Sandeep Puri, said that this DRTB ward is a dedicated ward which will be managed by expert team of physicians and support staff who will take care of the drug resistant TB Patients who need close observation and monitoring.

In view of forthcoming World TB Day, a Central session on Management of Drug Sensitive TB and Diagnostic Modalities of TB under NTEP were also conducted for Faculty members and Resident doctors. The sessions were delivered by Dr Ashish Chawla, District TB Officer and by Dr Veenu Gupta, Professor and Head Department of Microbiology. Session was attended by more than 200 participants.

During the session, Dr Veenu Gupta emphasised on Universal Drug Susceptibility Testing of TB patients and Dr Ashish Chawla explained the recent changes in management of drug sensitive TB as per NTEP Program.
