Dr.Prakasam Invited By Thailand Government for Research

Chandigarh, November 13, 2015: Post Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Economics PU and Assistant Professor in Government College for Girls Sector 11, Dr. Seepana Prakasam has got invitation to do research for 15 days at Thailand. Dr Prakasam is working under the supervision of Prof.Gurmail Singh.
From15-11-2015 to 29-11-2015, Dr Prakasam would study on the topic entitled ‘Social Security, Employment and Living Conditions of Urban Informal Workers in Thailand –Lessons for India’.
This programme is jointly sponsored by ICSSR Ministry of Human Resources Development (Government of India) and National Research Council of Thailand (Government of Thailand). After conducting research he will suggest policy measures to Government of India on social security for workers in India. 
Dr. Prakasam is one among the team of six scholars selected from India for this prestigious programme. By virtue of having experience in conducting constructive research on labour matters in India, he got the rare chance of this kind. He conducted research on street vendors, domestic workers, community service workers and restaurant
workers, Mid Day Meal scheme and Public Distribution System in Chandigarh. During the visit he will conduct field survey on informal workers in Bangkok and interact with the experts on labour matters in India Studies Centre- Thammasat University, Ministry of labour Government of Thailand, International Labour Organisation, World Bank regional office in Bangkok. 
Dr. Prakasam stated that during globalization in both the nations the proportion of informal workers has increased at greater extent than that of the formal workers, but their social security situation is matter of great discourse. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
