Chandigarh, September 18, 2025: Dr. Vinod Kumar, Assistant Professor & Chairperson, Department of Sociology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, delivered a thought-provoking lecture on the topic “Equilibrium of Society and Environment”. Dr. Amritpal Kaur, Chairperson, IETVE inaugurated the event with Welcome address.
Dr. Vinod Kumar highlighted the close relationship between society and the environment, stressing that their equilibrium is essential not only for sustainable development but also for living a healthy life. He explained how human activities such as industrialisation, urbanisation, and unchecked consumerism have disturbed this balance, leading to climate change, pollution, deforestation, and other ecological crises that directly impact human health and social well-being. From a sociological perspective, he pointed out that environmental degradation disproportionately affects vulnerable communities, making it both a social and ecological issue. Emphasizing the urgent need for change, Dr. Kumar encouraged students to adopt eco-friendly lifestyles, conserve natural resources, and take active steps to protect the environment, thereby ensuring healthier living conditions for present and future generations. The lecture concluded with an interactive session where students sought practical ways to contribute to environmental protection, and Dr. Kumar’s inspiring responses motivated everyone to reflect upon their role in creating a sustainable and balanced society.
