Centre for Social Work Raises Mental Health Awareness, Urges Students to Prioritise Wellbeing
The Centre for Social Work, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh organised an awareness programme on “Mental Health and Psycho-Social Wellbeing for Social Workers” as part of Mental Illness Awareness Week.
Chandigarh, October 7, 2026: The Centre for Social Work, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh organised an awareness programme on “Mental Health and Psycho-Social Wellbeing for Social Workers” as part of Mental Illness Awareness Week.
Department of Psychiatry, GMCH - 32, Chandigarh, Dr. Kamlesh K. Sahu, and Department of Psychology, PU, Dr. Bani Narula was the expert speaker at the programme. The experts were warmly welcomed by the Faculty Member, Centre for Social Work, PU, Dr. Gaurav Gaur.
The speakers sensitised students to various aspects of mental health, including stress, burnout, self-care, professional boundaries and mental health challenges faced by young people.
The session also covered contemporary concerns such as cyberbullying, social comparison, social isolation and the impact of social media on emotional and psychological wellbeing. Emphasis was laid on developing healthy coping mechanisms, maintaining professional boundaries and seeking timely support whenever required.
The programme highlighted that mental health is an essential component of overall wellbeing and encouraged students to adopt a balanced and positive approach towards life.
The session also emphasised the importance of self-care, emotional resilience and finding happiness in everyday life.
