Dr. Ramesh Verma, from the Department of Community Medicine at Pt. Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, has been appointed as a member of the Technical Evaluation Committee constituted by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. This committee will evaluate Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based health technologies.

Rohtak, April 27, 2026: Dr. Ramesh Verma, from the Department of Community Medicine at Pt. Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, has been appointed as a member of the Technical Evaluation Committee constituted by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. This committee will evaluate Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based health technologies.

The committee has been constituted under the framework of 'Health Technology Assessment in India,' with the objective of promoting evidence-based and transparent decision-making within the healthcare sector. Dr. Ramesh Verma is one of 11 experts selected from across the country to serve on this panel. The committee will be chaired by Dr. Siddharth Ramji, a retired professor from Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi.

Expressing his delight over Dr. Ramesh Verma's appointment, the Health University's Vice-Chancellor, Dr. H.K. Agarwal congratulated him, stating that this is a matter of great pride for the entire university and the state of Haryana. He remarked that AI represents the future of healthcare services. The Vice-Chancellor further added that this appointment would also serve as an inspiration for young faculty members and researchers.

Dr. Ramesh Verma explained that the committee would examine various aspects of AI-based technologies, such as their clinical efficacy, cost-effectiveness, and their role in ensuring equity within healthcare services. It will provide policy recommendations regarding the application of AI in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and public health programs.

Dr. Varun Arora, In-charge of the University's Public Relations Department, noted that Dr. Ramesh Verma, with his 26 years of experience, has made significant contributions to the field of Community Medicine. His academic record includes over 160 research papers, 7 books, and chapters contributed to 7 national-level publications. He has served as an investigator in 8 clinical trials. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also served as a co-investigator in the Covaxin trials. Currently, he serves as the Member Secretary of the Institutional Ethics Committee and the BRC (Biomedical Research Committee) at PGIMS.
