Chandigarh, July 24, 2026: Dr. Paramjit Kaur Sidhu, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Department of Punjabi, Panjab University, Chandigarh, has been honoured with the prestigious 'Bibi Jagir Kaur Sandhu Sarvotam Mahila Puraskar (2021)' by the Haryana Sahitya and Sanskriti Academy.
The award was presented by the Haryana Chief Minister at a state-level function held in Rohtak, in recognition of her outstanding and distinguished contribution to Punjabi literature and literary criticism.
Dr. Sidhu has made remarkable contributions to the field of Punjabi literary criticism through her research and scholarly writings. Earlier, her book Punjabi Naval: Sidhant TeSamikhia (Punjabi Novel: Theory and Criticism) was honoured with the Best Criticism Book Award for the year 2013 by the Haryana Punjabi Sahitya Academy, Government of Haryana. In recognition of her significant contribution to Dalit literary criticism, she was also conferred the prestigious Dr. Ambedkar Sahitya Shri National Award in 2019 by the Bharati Dalit Sahitya Academy.
A distinguished academic and researcher, Dr. Sidhu has authored five books and published more than 75 research papers in reputed national and international journals. In addition, she has translated two books into Punjabi and edited two scholarly volumes.
Dr. Sidhu has represented Panjab University and, earlier, Kurukshetra University at numerous national and international Punjabi literary conferences. Through her academic engagements, she has played an active role in the promotion of Punjabi language, literature, and literary criticism.
