DMC&H Successfully Conducts 3-Day Basic Course in Medical Education under NMC Guidelines

Ludhiana, August 27, 2025: Dayanand Medical College & Hospital (DMC&H), Ludhiana, successfully organized a three-day Basic Course in Medical Education (BCME), workshop from 25th August to 27th August 2025, under the guidelines of the National Medical Commission (NMC). A total of 30 faculty members from DMC&H were selected to participate in the program.
The BCME, held at the Medical Education Unit of DMC&H College Campus, focused on innovative teaching methodologies, assessment strategies, and advanced educational concepts designed to enhance the quality of medical education. The Nodal Centre for Faculty Development for this BCME was Christian Medical College, Ludhiana. Dr. Dinesh K Badyal, Vice Principal (Med edu) and Professor & Head of Pharmacology at CMC, Ludhiana was appointed by NMC as the official observer for this program.
The inaugural ceremony of the BCME was graced by Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, Dr. G.S. Wander, Principal, DMC&H, Dr. Sandeep Kaushal, Dean Academics, DMC&H, and Dr. Dinesh K Badyal, Observer, NMC.
Addressing the gathering, Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society emphasized that BCME plays a vital role in equipping faculty with new-age teaching methodologies. He highlighted that as technology evolves, the approaches to teaching, concept clarification, and student engagement must also evolve.
He further stated that while the faculty members are already experts in their respective fields, these modern teaching techniques will significantly improve their ability to deliver concepts more effectively, making teaching simpler, impactful, and aligned with the needs of today’s students.
In his message, Dr. G.S. Wander, Principal, DMC&H, stressed that the primary objective of BCME is to provide teachers with effective methods that enrich both the teaching and learning experience. He noted that the inclusion of new strategies, particularly in assessment and evaluation, would enhance the overall academic environment and better prepare students for professional challenges.
He expressed confidence that the knowledge gained during the course would not only improve faculty skills but also elevate the institution’s standards of medical education.
Dr. Dinesh K Badyal, NMC Observer for this BCME, also shared his insights. He commended the efforts of DMC&H in conducting the program in accordance with NMC guidelines and underlined the importance of continuous faculty development.
He highlighted that such courses not only strengthen the teaching framework but also bring uniformity in medical education across institutions. According to him, this initiative will directly benefit students, ensuring that they are taught through more structured, modern, and student-centered approaches.
Dr. Sandeep Kaushal, Dean Academics, DMC&H, proposed the vote of thanks, highlighting the efforts made by the Medical Education Unit (MEU) in making this course effective for learning newer techniques. He emphasized that the course would demonstrate new methods and provide a valuable learning opportunity for all participants, including hands-on experience.
The three-day course included a series of lectures and interactive activities conducted by the members of the Medical Education Unit (MEU), which comprised Dr. Sandeep Kaushal, Dean Academics, Dr. Anurag Chaudhary, Dr. Kanchan Gupta, Dr. Hem Lata, Dr. Sonia Singh, Dr. Seema Gupta, Dr. Sumit Grover and Dr. Sanjeev Puri.
A lecture was also delivered by Dr. G.S. Wander, Principal, DMC&H on the assessment of clinical and practical skills, further underlining the importance of evaluation in medical education.
These sessions focused on innovative teaching strategies, practical demonstrations, and activity-based learning to achieve the course objectives. There are new sessions on Academic growth & mentoring.
The workshop concluded with the distribution of certificates to all participants, marking the successful completion of the program. This initiative by DMC&H reflects its commitment to academic excellence, faculty development, and its dedication to nurturing the next generation of medical professionals through improved and modernized teaching methods.
