Rohtak, August 13, 2025: The week-long celebrations at Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA), marking the run-up to Independence Day, gathered further momentum today with a spirited Rangoli competition organised by the Department of Design as part of the Tiranga Mahotsav.

Around 64 students, working in teams of 3–5, transformed the varsity's pathways into vibrant canvases of colour, crafting intricate patterns on themes ranging from patriotism and national unity to social issues like equality, integration, and empowerment. The creativity and craftsmanship on display set the tone for the grand Foundation Day celebrations on 14th August.

A special highlight of Foundation Day will be the poignant play “Operation Sindoor”, written and directed by Vibhanshu Vaibhav. Staged by 22 students from across faculties, the 20-minute production dramatizes the plight of the Pahalgam victims with emotional depth and realism.

The main attraction, however, is set to be the much-anticipated Fashion Show, whose rehearsals were inspected today by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya and Registrar Dr. Gunjan Malik Manocha.

Choreographed by eminent Delhi-based choreographer Hemant Kela, with styling by Shyam Singh Rajput, the show will feature seven themed rounds - Sustainability and Ecology, Indian Heritage, Rebellious Bikers, Fairy Tale, Fusion Illusion, Dual Mode, and Modern Furniture. All garments and products showcased have been conceptualised, designed, and stitched by the varrsity’s Design students.

Talking about the preparations, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya said, "Each event this week is not just a performance or display; it is a living testament to our students’ ingenuity and the collaborative ethos of our faculty. The Rangoli competition was a riot of colour and thought. The play promises emotional depth and the fashion show will be a celebration of skill, creativity, and thematic storytelling."

Registrar Dr. Gunjan Malik Manocha added, "Watching the rehearsals today reaffirmed my belief in the boundless energy and talent of our students. From design to execution, they own every aspect of these events. The coming days will not only showcase their abilities but also reinforce the varsity’s role as a hub of innovation and cultural expression."

The celebrations will culminate on 15th August with the Independence Day ceremony, where — in a first — senior support staff including gardeners, peons, security guards, and sweepers will join VC Dr. Amit Arya in unfurling the national flag, symbolising the varsity’s deep-rooted commitment to inclusivity and respect for every contributor to its growth.
