Chandigarh, January 23, 2026: The Department of Statistics, Panjab University, Chandigarh today organised Discussion on “Impact of Social Media on Voting” and administered pledge to celebrate National Voters Day 2026 on the theme “My India, My Vote”.
 
The discussion started with address of Prof. Narinder Kumar, Chairperson, Dept. of Statistics, Panjab University, Chandigarh. In his address he said National Voters Day celebrated annually in India on 25th January in order to increase enrolment of voters and to encourage more and more young voters to take part in the electoral process.  He also makes aware the young voters of the department to check their names in the Electoral Roll through “Voter Service Portal”.
 
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of faculty members, students, Research Scholars and staff of the department.  Students discussed and expressed their views on “Impact of Social Media on voting” very enthusiastically.
 
The event was concluded with the pledge administration to all faculty members, student, Research Scholars and staff to vote in every election fearlessly and without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement.
 
The Chairperson also appreciated the sincere efforts of student coordinators namely Shivnandan Rikhee and Himani Sharma for conducting the event successfully.
