Dewan Slams AAP’s ‘Sikhya Kranti’ as Hollow Spectacle, Exposes Mid Day Meal Crisis in Schools
Former President of the District Congress Committee, Ludhiana (Urban) and ex Chairman of the Punjab Large Industrial Development Board, Pawan Dewan has branded the AAP government’s campaign of ‘Sikhya Kranti’ as a complete ‘farce’.
Ludhiana, July 17, 2026: Former President of the District Congress Committee, Ludhiana (Urban) and ex Chairman of the Punjab Large Industrial Development Board, Pawan Dewan has branded the AAP government’s campaign of ‘Sikhya Kranti’ as a complete ‘farce’. In a statement issued here today, Dewan said, “The reality is grim. Since May, government schools in Ludhiana, have neither received funds for the Mid Day Meal scheme, nor has there been any supply of food grains.”
Dewan further said that while the present regime indulges in slogans of bringing ‘Sikhya Kranti’, the reality is that the government has adopted an ‘utterly casual’ approach towards a scheme that is indispensable for schoolchildren. “The Mid Day Meal programme, designed to ensure nutrition and improve attendance, is being neglected with alarming indifference. If a government cannot even safeguard such a vital initiative, it exposes the true face of Punjab’s education under AAP,” he said.
Quoting media reports, Dewan highlighted how government schools have been pushed into desperate improvisation—sourcing ration and essential supplies on credit from local shopkeepers simply to keep the Mid Day Meal scheme running. “What was conceived as a guaranteed welfare programme has, in practice, turned into a daily struggle for survival for both schools and students,” he remarked.
Dewan strongly castigated the AAP government for indulging in “false propaganda” by projecting Punjab’s government schools as institutions on par with private ones. “The reality is that a cash strapped AAP government, which cannot even sustain the Mid Day Meal scheme, is brazenly showcasing government schools as models of excellence and claiming they compete with the best in the country. This is not transformation, it is sheer audacity — a shameless attempt to dress up lies as achievements,” he declared.
Dewan said that since the beginning of the new academic session, neither have funds for the Mid Day Meal scheme been released nor has the supply of food grains reached many schools. He reminded that the very purpose of the scheme is to provide nutritious meals to children in government schools—meals meant to improve their nutrition levels and encourage regular attendance. “If the government has no funds to run such an important scheme, one can imagine the non-seriousness of the present government towards the school education,” he concluded.
