Dev Samaj College of Education unveils unique `Learning To Teach Online' course for teachers

Chandigarh: Dev Samaj College of Education (DSCE) , Sec 36, Chandigarh, has unveiled a unique 'Learning To Teach Online' course for teachers, and has announced a batch for the same which will start August 12, 2020 onwards.    

The new online course started by DSCE assumes significance as the school and colleges are shut due to the on-going pandemic, and virtual-online learning has now become an educational fact of life. The  sudden closure of educational institutions has also exposed the ill-preparedness to handle the transition to distance learning. With a pandemic stricken education system teachers too faced several problems exploring virtual teaching for the first time in their life.

To tackle the problems faced by teachers & supporting the continuation of teaching and learning during COVID-19 Pandemic, Dev Samaj College of Education(DSCE), Sec 36-B, Chandigarh has developed an online MOOC(Massive Open Online Course) course on ‘Learning To Teach Online’ for prospective and in-service teachers.

The initiative has been taken by Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) through Teaching Learning Centre of DSCE under the guidance and leadership of Nirmal Singh Dhillon, Secretary, Dev Samaj and Chairman, Dev Samaj College of Education, Chandigarh.

This course has proven to be a landmark as an important and urgent task of supporting students’ to learn during these challenging times.

Dr. Agnese Dhillon, Principal, DSCE said, “Teachers will get the opportunity to learn new technological tools and experience new possibilities to generate education for students across the world. We have already completed one batch of this course where around 700 candidates from different states like Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttrakhand, Assam, Tamilnadu, Rajasthan participated. Before this, we did a pilot study of the same course on 60 prospective teachers, who appreciated this a lot.”

She highlighted that, “The College has now got the sponsorship from State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT), Department of School Education, and Government of Punjab for a two week e-course for In-service teachers on Transition From Blackboard to Broadband: Online Training for Online Teaching whose valedictory function is going to be held on 9th August, on Monday.”

After receiving an overwhelming response from the participants, the college has decided  to start one more batch of the same from 12th August, 2020 to 28th August, 2020. Many candidates have already registered in the course and registration is still on.
