Jalandhar, April 4, 2026: Former Education Minister and MLA Pargat Singh has condemned the incident of teachers being detained at a government school in village Rania, district Moga, calling it a direct attack on democratic values. He said that detaining teachers merely because a rally of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was being held nearby is highly objectionable. “Is this what the Chief Minister and the Aam Aadmi Party call an education revolution?” he questioned.
Pargat Singh stated that teachers are a respected section of society who shape the future of children. Detaining them in front of students not only hurts their dignity but also sends a very worrying signal for the education system.
He questioned the government, asking what kind of threat teachers pose. According to him, the incident shows that the government is afraid of criticism and that police interference in educational institutions is increasing. He further said that the government is not granting teachers their rightful demands. When they ask for their rights, they are met with batons and harassed with water cannons.
The Congress leader added that the politics of fear and pressure cannot be accepted under any circumstances in the state. He demanded an immediate clarification from the government and warned that if such incidents do not stop, the Congress party will intensify its democratic protest.
