Ludhiana, September 12, 2024: To prevent incidents of paddy stubble burning, the district administration has started making strenuous efforts by sensitizing the farmers against the malpractice.
Under this, Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney today visited village Hathur near Jagraon and made farmers aware not to burn the stubble. She appealed to the farmers to refrain from burning paddy stubble, saying it puts the nature in the danger. She stated that burning stubble reduces soil fertility by destroying several important nutrients and other micronutrients of soil.
She was also accompanied by ADC Rural Development Anmol Singh Dhaliwal, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Parkash Singh, besides other senior officers.
Sawhney mentioned that last year, there was a significant decline in stubble burning incidents at Ludhiana, but more improvement is needed. She emphasized that the administration is committed to helping farmers and asked them to manage stubble without burning it. She informed that the Agriculture Department is providing subsidized machinery to farmers, groups, and cooperative societies to manage stubble. She appealed to farmers to come forward and take advantage of this scheme.
The Deputy Commissioner also felicitated the farmers who have not burnt the paddy stubble, and stated that other farmers also should not indulge in this practice which causes irreparable damage to the environment.
