Rohtak, January 17, 2026: An advisory has been issued by the Haryana State Revenue and Disaster Management Department regarding what to do and what not to do to protect against the increasing cold and cold wave.
Providing preventive information, Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta urged citizens to be vigilant and protect themselves from the cold wave.
DC Sachin Gupta said that during a cold wave, stay indoors as much as possible and minimize travel to avoid cold winds. Keep updated on weather information through radio and other media. Take proper care of the elderly and children, and check on neighbors who live alone, especially the elderly. Also, ensure that emergency supplies are readily available. Instead of single-layer clothing, wear loose-fitting, layered, lightweight clothing, a windproof cotton outer layer, and warm woolen inner garments. Use a hat and waterproof shoes to maintain body heat. Keep your head covered as body heat is lost from the top of the head, and cover your mouth to protect your lungs. Drink warm liquids regularly; this will help maintain body heat to fight the cold.
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta said that to maintain body heat, eat nutritious food and avoid alcohol to prevent dehydration. Seek medical advice if you experience symptoms of frostbite, such as numb, white or yellowish fingers and toes, earlobes, and the tip of the nose. Seek medical advice immediately if you experience symptoms of hypothermia (body temperature below normal), such as uncontrollable shivering, difficulty speaking, drowsiness, muscle stiffness, and difficulty breathing.
