Rohtak, February 6, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta exhorted athletes to keep their dreams alive despite hardships and to transform every challenge into an opportunity through determination and perseverance.
Addressing athletes and sports enthusiasts as Chief Guest at the valedictory ceremony of the Special Olympics Bharat Athletics National Championship 2025-26, at MDU Sports Complex, he said that unwavering resolve is often stronger than medals and that even the toughest destinations can be achieved with grit and positive thinking.
He encouraged participants to return stronger in future competitions and stressed that such events should not be limited merely to winning medals but must serve as platforms to promote sports culture nationwide. He added that more such championships would be organised to allow athletes from across the country to showcase their talent. Referring to the broader social impact, he said that initiatives like Special Olympics Bharat embody the spirit of inclusion, equal opportunity and confidence-building in society.
DC Sachin Gupta appreciated the hospitality extended by the university administration and said the entire campus had turned vibrant during the championship. He described all participating athletes as winners whose discipline, sportsmanship and indomitable spirit had made the event memorable. He formally declared the championship closed and presented medals to the winners and participants.
Vice-Chancellor Rajbir Singh noted that such platforms play a crucial role in giving national recognition to athletes with special needs and in sensitising society towards inclusion. Former Chairperson of the Rehabilitation Council of India Sharanjit Kaur highlighted the need for empowerment and dignity for persons with disabilities, stressing the importance of recognising their abilities and providing opportunities for self-reliance, leadership and social participation.
Event Coordinator Prof. Rajkumar welcomed the gathering and thanked all supporting institutions, officials and volunteers. Secretary General of Special Olympics Bharat D. G. Chaudhary expressed gratitude. The programme was conducted by Prof. Sonu and Dr. Kuldeep Chaudhary. At the closing ceremony, winners and participants were felicitated, and the event concluded with a pledge to build an inclusive, empowered and compassionate society through sports. Nearly 600 athletes from 27 countries participated in the championship.
