DC Sachin Gupta was presiding over a departmental review meeting with officials of the Fisheries Department, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Department, Animal Husbandry & Dairy Department, Horticulture Department, and Forest Department at the Mini Secretariat.
He instructed the Fisheries Department officer to motivate farmers to adopt fisheries as an income-generating activity. The department should prepare a special action plan according to the district’s water-table zones.
The Deputy Commissioner said that farmers should be provided quality fish seed and water quality should also be tested at regular intervals so that farmers get good production. He also said that specific targets should be set to promote fisheries. District Fisheries Officer Asha Hooda Ahlawat informed that the department provides certified fish seed to farmers and conducts water-quality testing every month.
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta instructed horticulture officials to take necessary steps to ensure the quality of honey so that citizens get pure and quality honey. He said that beekeepers must be assured that this business can provide them good income. To promote beekeeping, the State Government is giving an 85% subsidy on bee boxes (bee boxes) and bee colonies to all categories of applicants.
The Deputy Commissioner said that to save beekeepers from losses and to eliminate market-related risks due to low prices in urban markets, honey has been included under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana. Beekeepers must register on the Madhukanti Portal and Honey Trade Centre (HTC Portal) from 1 December to 31 May; Family ID is mandatory. For availing benefits, the maximum limit is 1,000 bee boxes per beekeeper. A base price of ₹120 per kg honey has been fixed, and a sale limit of 30,000 kg per beekeeper per year at the rate of 30 kg per box has been set.
Reviewing the schemes of the Animal Husbandry & Dairy Department, DC Sachin Gupta instructed that the department must conduct health check-ups of all animals at the village level. He said that livestock keepers should be informed about these camps so that every livestock owner can get their animals examined. He also instructed that all three mobile vans of the department must be deployed for animal health check-ups.
He directed that under the ongoing vaccination drives, all animals must be vaccinated. So far, 76% of the animals have been vaccinated. He further informed that the Government provides 25% subsidy to general-category farmers for mini dairy units, and 90% subsidy to Scheduled Caste farmers for goat and sheep units, along with 50% subsidy for pig farming.
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta instructed the Soil Conservation Wing of the Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Department to start a Vertical Drainage System in Bhaini Surjan and Bhaini Maharajpur villages of Meham Block to lower the underground water level. Under this system, saline groundwater is pumped out through shallow submersible drainage tubewells and discharged into drains through pipelines. This vertical drainage system has been introduced for the reclamation of waterlogged and saline lands.
DC Sachin Gupta added that tenders have been issued to start the Vertical Drainage System in Mayna, Rithal Narwal, Kiloi Khas and Dopana, Asan, Mor Kheri, Atyal, Samchana, and Ajaib.
