Rohtak, January 5, 2026: A joint inter-departmental review meeting of the Municipal Corporation Rohtak, Public Health Engineering Department and Irrigation Department was jointly chaired by the Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta, and the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Rohtak, to comprehensively review urban flooding and stormwater management measures in the city.

The Deputy Commissioner directed that all stormwater drainage and sewerage projects be completed in a time-bound manner, making it clear that the district administration is fully committed to preventing urban flooding in Rohtak during the forthcoming monsoon. He emphasized that corrective measures based on last year’s monsoon experience must be implemented on priority and with close inter-departmental coordination.

During the meeting, a location-wise review of chronic water logging points experienced during the previous monsoon was undertaken. Departments were instructed to address missing links, undersized pipelines, silted or encroached drains, choke points, and downstream outfall constraints. Special focus was laid on water logging-prone areas, and officers were directed to ensure hydraulic continuity from internal storm water lines up to terminal disposals.

The Deputy Commissioner further directed that point-wise action plans be prepared on the issues raised by municipal councilors, with clear timelines and departmental accountability. He stressed that pipeline laying works should be completed in advance wherever road construction is proposed, so as to avoid future disruptions.

It was informed in the meeting that sewer and stormwater infrastructure works worth several crores are currently underway in the city. These include sewer pipeline replacement works costing over ₹15 crore, desilting of main sewer lines using super-sucker machines, upgradation of the Sewage Treatment Plant from 40 MLD to 60 MLD capacity, strengthening of the stormwater pipeline on Rajiv Gandhi Stadium Road, and special repair and strengthening of sewer lines in various parts of the city. Proposals for providing civic amenities in newly approved colonies and for strengthening stormwater disposals and drains are also under implementation or consideration.

The Deputy Commissioner and the Municipal Commissioner jointly emphasized that urban flood management is a shared institutional responsibility. Departments were directed to ensure pre-monsoon desilting of drains and nallahs, readiness of machinery and pumps, and a coordinated response mechanism during the monsoon, along with post-rainfall monitoring of drainage time.

Senior officers of the Municipal Corporation, Public Health Engineering Department, Irrigation Department, HSVP, municipal committees, and elected councillors were present in the meeting.

The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that with advance planning, strict monitoring, and coordinated execution, the district administration and Municipal Corporation will effectively check urban flooding in Rohtak.
