DC inaugurates workshop to empower govt school teachers and students with critical life-saving skills under Mission Swasth Kavach
Administration collaborates with DMC Hospital to train teachers and students

Ludhiana, August 25, 2025: Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain on Monday inaugurated a transformative three-day workshop aimed at empowering government school teachers and students with critical life-saving skills, in partnership with Dayanand Medical College & Hospital (DMC&H) under Mission Swasth Kavach, a groundbreaking public health and capacity-building initiative.
Jain stated the objective of workshop to create a cadre of trained health mentors from government school teachers and students, who will champion essential health practices within their communities. The initiative focuses on hands-on training in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Blood Pressure Monitoring & Awareness, equipping participants with vital skills to promote health and respond to emergencies effectively.
The DC added that this ambitious program will span 534 government schools across district and schools will nominate teachers to become Health Mentors, who will undergo specialized training. This three-day seminar-cum-training workshop, conducted by DMC&H, will equip these teachers with the necessary skills. Trained Teacher Health Mentors will then train students from classes 9th to 12th, ensuring the widespread dissemination of life-saving health knowledge. He added that to support this initiative, DMC&H will offer 500 Blood Pressure Monitoring Apparatus to government schools.
To upskill teachers as Health Mentors, a series of workshops will be held till August 27 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Dumra Auditorium, DMC&H, Ludhiana, near the HERO HEART DMC&H Entrance. Around 175 teachers will participate each day, ensuring all schools are covered over the three days. By the end of the training, a dedicated cadre of Teacher Health Mentors will be prepared to lead the initiative and train students across the district.
Jain detailed that the implementation plan for Mission Swasth Kavach includes mapping each DMC&H Mentor to 20–25 schools to work closely with trained teacher health mentors. Collaborative training sessions will be conducted for students in Classes 9th to 12th to impart practical knowledge in CPR and blood pressure monitoring. The District Education Officer (DEO) will coordinate with DMC&H to create a comprehensive schedule for student training.
The DC also highlighted that Mission Swasth Kavach aims to establish a sustainable health mentorship ecosystem within schools, empower teachers and students with life-saving health skills, and strengthen Ludhiana’s preparedness and responsiveness to health emergencies.
