DC Himanshu Jain visits Punjab Sakhi Shakti Mela, tastes golgappe and plays games

Ludhiana, February 25,2026: Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain on Wednesday visited the Punjab Sakhi Shakti Mela 2026 on Wednesday, where he toured various stalls, with special focus on those run by self-help groups (SHGs).
Accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioners Narinder Singh Dhaliwal and Jashanpreet Kaur Gill, Assistant Commissioner Dr. Pragati, and Sub-Divisional Magistrates Swati Tiwana and Payal Goyal, DC Jain interacted closely with women entrepreneurs. He praised their handmade products—including exquisite Phulkari embroidery, decorative items, delicious food products, and other traditional handicrafts—and urged them to persist in their efforts toward achieving greater self-reliance and economic independence.
Highlighting the significance of such platforms, Jain emphasized that events like the Sakhi Shakti Mela play a pivotal role in empowering women economically and fostering grassroots entrepreneurship across Punjab.
The Deputy Commissioner also immersed himself in the festive spirit by enjoying popular street foods like golgappe and chaat, participating in games, and watching traditional wrestling matches along with other folk sports. He lauded the organizers for keeping Punjab's rich cultural heritage and traditional games alive through these vibrant displays.
Jain appealed to the public to visit the mela in large numbers and support local women-led initiatives.
