DC Himanshu Jain inaugurated training courses for 85 children of Ludhiana Observation Home-Hairdresser, Stylist and Smartphone Assembly Technician

Ludhiana, July 6, 2026: Under the guidance of the Social Security, Women and Child Development Department of the Punjab Government, with the aim of making children living in observation homes running under the Juvenile Justice Act self-reliant and connecting them with employable skills, Punjab has taken a historic initiative and achieved the distinction of becoming the first state in the country to start a skill development program for children living in observation homes and special homes.
This skill development program was formally inaugurated on Monday at the Observation Home for Boys in Ludhiana by Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Himanshu Jain.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain said that 85 children will be trained in the Observation Home of Ludhiana. Out of these, 56 children will do the course of Hairdresser and Stylist and 29 children will do the course of Smartphone Assembly Technician. These courses will be run by the Punjab Skill Development Mission.
He said that the aim of the Punjab Government is not only to provide security and care to these children, but also to equip their personality with such skills that can make their future safe and self-reliant. He said that the focus of training for the children living in the Observation Home will be discipline, self-confidence, counseling and employment-oriented skills.
The Deputy Commissioner told the children that no job/skill is small or big. Motivating the children to learn jobs/skills with full dedication along with their studies, he said that the Punjab Government has provided a strong ladder for their future and now it depends on the hard work and dedication of the children to take advantage of this opportunity. He said that the future of any child is not determined by his past, but by his hard work, skills and intentions. He said that certificates will also be given to the children who complete the training.
On this occasion, he also said that this skill development program will prove to be a new turning point in their lives. They said that the skills learned with their own hands are useful throughout their lives and this training will open new employment opportunities in the future.
On this occasion, District Social Security Officer Varinder Singh Tiwana, District Program Officer Gurmeet Singh, Superintendent Observation Home Ludhiana Harman Singh Rana, District Program Manager, Punjab Skill Development Mission, Ludhiana Ravijot Kaur, District Manager Training and Placement, Punjab Skill Development Mission, Ludhiana Prince Kumar Bhardwaj, Member of Juvenile Justice Board Kamaljit Kaur, Member of Child Welfare Council Sapna Mittal and Governance Fellow Navpreet Sidhu were also present.
