Asks school managements to gift saplings to each student

Ferozepur, July 26, 2019: To prevent further water depletion and keeping Punjab from becoming second Rajasthan, the deputy commissioner Ferozepur Chander Gaind has called for a unique concept namely One Child One Tree on Friday.

Addressing the gathering of students comprising of 6th to 10th standard at St. Joseph Convent School, Ferozepur, the deputy commissioner asked for compulsive plantation to save the environment.

Giving example of water crisis scenario of Chennai and other cities of the country, Gaind said that a special water train has been started to supply required water to Chennai, adding that he said that if we did not stop exploiting our water resources this situation can come up in our state too within next 5 to 7 years.

He asked school management to launch One Child One Tree drive-by gifting a plant to each student. He called upon students to plant a tree and give it a name, even give it their name and nurse them. After a decade when they see their plant as a grown-up tree, they will be filled with the feeling of profound happiness.

After speaking on plantation and environment, the deputy commissioner went on to speak about drug menace. He explained the students about the ill-effects of drugs on our life and appealed them to stay away from this abuse.

The deputy commissioner exhorted students to keep an eye on their family members to ensure none of them was involved in the drug trade and inform their senior school buddy.

He further asked students to help police and administration through their buddy group whenever they have any information about drug traders.
