Interview with MP Sanjeev Arora: Transforming Ludhiana West
Rajya Sabha MP and Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate from Ludhiana (West) Sanjeev Arora, has emerged as a key force behind the city’s transformation. In this interview, he reflects on his major achievements and shares his vision for a progressive and better-connected Ludhiana.

In this interview, he reflects on his major achievements and shares his vision for a progressive and better-connected Ludhiana.
Q: The Halwara Airport project had been stalled for decades. How did you manage to see it through?
A: Indeed, Halwara Airport was delayed for nearly 30 years. Under the AAP government's leadership, we prioritized this project, allocating Rs.60 crore for its development. I'm proud to share that the airport is now 100% complete, marking a significant milestone for Ludhiana's connectivity.
Q: The civil hospital's renovation has been a talking point. What advancements have been made?
A: We've overhauled the Civil Hospital, introducing an eight-bed ICU equipped with ventilators and high-flow oxygen systems and many other facilities. This upgrade, completed in just 18 months, was funded through CSR initiatives and MPLADS, ensuring modern healthcare facilities for our citizens.
Q: The ESIC Hospital has also seen improvements. Could you elaborate?
A: Absolutely. The ESIC Hospital, established in 1970, underwent its first major upgrade in 30 years. The infrastructure has been enhanced. It includes the addition of a new ICU ward costing Rs.73.03 lakh. These enhancements aim to provide better healthcare services to over 4.3 lakh workers in the region.
Q: Cycling infrastructure is gaining attention. What's the status of the Ladhowal Bypass cycling track?
A: Promoting eco-friendly transportation is crucial. The NHAI approved an Rs.18.59 crore project for a 23 km cycling track along the Ladhowal Bypass. The work is already in progress, and we're on track for completion by mid-October 2025.
Q: Road conditions in the Focal Point area have been a concern. What's being done?
A: After 15 years of neglect, we've initiated the reconstruction of roads across all eight phases of the Focal Point industrial area. This revamp is vital for facilitating smoother industrial operations and logistics.
Q: Traffic congestion over the Sidhwan Canal has been problematic. Any developments?
A: Yes, recognizing the need for better connectivity, we've secured approval for four new bridges over the Sidhwan Canal. The work is already in progress. These bridges will be operational in near future, significantly easing traffic flow in the area.
Q: What would you say about elevated road project.
A: The project is already completed with my constant efforts. It has enhanced connectivity and reduced traffic congestion, benefiting daily commuters and the city's overall infrastructure. Now, 700 parking slots are to be constructed by NHAI under this elevated road. The nearby shopkeepers will be greatly benefited from this coming project, which is already given approval.
Q: What is you stake on One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme for the industrialists?
A: The OTS scheme, addressing a 32-year-old demand, has been implemented. Approximately 1,145 industrialists across Punjab are benefitted.
Q: What would you say about transferring residential societies from LIT to MCL?
A: We've successfully facilitated the transfer of six major residential schemes from the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) to the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana (MCL). This move, pending for 30 years, has ensured better governance and infrastructure development for residents. Besides, I have facilitated in a long-pending issue regarding the regularization of EWS flats in Blocks X, Y, and Z of the Maharishi Balmik Nagar scheme (256 acres), under LIT.
Q: Power supply issues is also seen a poll issue in your meetings. What would you say?
A: To ensure uninterrupted power supply, we're installing 234 new transformers across Ludhiana. Additionally, a new Sherpur Grid, costing approximately Rs.65 crore, will be commissioned to enhance power distribution capacity.
Q: Healthcare support, especially for cancer patients, is crucial. Any initiatives in this regard?
A: Through the Krishna Pran Breast Cancer Charitable Trust, I've facilitated treatment for around 300 cancer patients, providing free care to those in need. This initiative reflects my commitment to supporting vulnerable sections of society.
Q: Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for Ludhiana West?
A: My vision is to transform Ludhiana West into a model constituency, emphasizing sustainable development, robust infrastructure, and enhanced quality of life for all residents.
