Chandigarh, July 2, 2026: The three-week internship programme for the students of the Centre for Police Administration, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, continued on its second day at the Recruit Training Centre (RTC), Sector 26, Chandigarh Police. The day's programme focused on providing students with practical exposure to the operational and administrative functioning of various police units.
Inspector Punam Dilawari, Chief Law Instructor (CLI), RTC, welcomed the students and briefed them about the day's training schedule. She encouraged them to actively engage with police personnel to gain first-hand knowledge of police administration and operational practices.
The training commenced with an interactive session on "Crowd Management by Police," conducted by Sub-Inspector Gursaib Singh. Drawing on practical experiences, he explained the planning, deployment and strategies adopted by the police for managing crowds during public agitations, religious gatherings, trade fairs, festivals and other large public events. He also elaborated on preventive measures, resource deployment, inter-agency coordination and the various stages involved in maintaining public order.
As part of the field exposure, the students visited several key units of the Police Lines. At the Motor Transport Section (MTS), Inspector Vijay Kumar, Incharge, MTS, explained the procurement, allocation, fuelling, maintenance and operational management of police vehicles, including PCR vehicles and motorcycles. The visit enabled students to understand the logistical support system that facilitates efficient policing.
The students also visited the K-9 Dog Squad, where Inspector Kiran Pal demonstrated the specialised training imparted to police dogs and highlighted their role in crime detection, investigation, narcotics detection, explosive searches, tracking and rescue operations. The live demonstration offered valuable insights into the contribution of trained police dogs to modern policing.
Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Chairperson, Centre for Police Administration PU, appreciated the support extended by Chandigarh Police in facilitating experiential learning for the students. He said that such internships bridge the gap between classroom teaching and field realities, enabling students to develop a comprehensive understanding of professional policing.
The second day of the internship provided students with valuable practical exposure, helping them connect academic concepts with real-world policing practices while strengthening their understanding of the diverse responsibilities of the police.
