Ranchi, 24 June (H.S): Cyber criminals stole Rs 9.64 lakh from civil court advocate Binay Kumar and his son Prateek Anand in the name of selling books on OLX.

The victims are Purnima House residents in the Argora police station area of Jharkhand's capital, Ranchi. A case has been opened in this regard at the CID's cyber station.

On June 21, Subhang Mishra, a friend of advocate's son Prateek Anand, posted an advertisement on the OLX app to sell his old book, giving cyber criminals an opportunity to steal money.

?Cyber criminals began chatting with Subhang from OLX after seeing the advertisement. During this time, an account number and mobile number were requested in order to send the money, with the promise of purchasing a book from OLX. Subhang lacked the account number. He gave him the phone number of a friend, Prateek Anand. Following that, the cyber criminal called Prateek Anand at 8602073669. They then sent a QR code to Prateek's phone number in order to pay for the book. Following that, the cyber criminal entangled Prateek in various matters and had the QR code scanned. Following this, Rs 18,000 was withdrawn from Prateek's Canara Bank account and Rs 9.46 lakh from the advocate's Indian Bank account number? a police official said, informing us about the case.
