Creative and participatory ‘Craft & Cultural Event’

Chandigarh, March 12, 2026: The Department-cum-Centre for Women’s Studies & Development organised a creative and participatory ‘Craft & Cultural Event’ as a part of Trinjan 2k26, a week-long celebration of International Women’s Day. The event aimed to provide a creative and expressive space for students to engage with ideas of gender equality.
A Zine Making Workshop was conducted in which participants were first introduced to the concept of zines as a form of personal and artistic expression. Students then created their own zines around thought-provoking themes such as “What does gender mean to you?”, “If gender had no rules”, “Solidarity & Allyship”, and “A message to your younger self”. The activity encouraged participants to reflect on their experiences and perspectives while expressing them through art and writing. Participants actively contributed their artworks, writings, poems and reflections, which were compiled into creative zines reflecting diverse voices and experiences.
The event also featured an Open Mic session, where students enthusiastically shared their talents. Participants performed folk songs on gender, recited poems and presented couplets, creating a lively and supportive atmosphere. The session became a platform for voices, creativity and emotions, allowing students to connect through artistic expression.
Overall, Craft & Culture successfully blended creativity with dialogue on gender, making it an engaging and meaningful part of the International Women’s Day celebrations. Prof. Rajesh K. Chander, Chairperson, thanked the participating students for contributing to gender discourse through their creative arts, folk songs and reflections on gender equality.
