Cosmetic Announcements, Crumbling Reality: Dewan Labels Budget ‘Regressive, Disastrous & Demoralizing’
No Roadmap, No Revival: Union Budget nothing but a blow to Industry: Dewan
Ludhiana, February 1, 2026: Calling the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today “regressive,” “disastrous,” and “demoralizing,” former District Congress Committee, Ludhiana (Urban) President and Ex-Chairman of the Punjab Large Industrial Development Board, Pawan Dewan, asserted that “all hopes of Ludhiana’s industry for revival have been shattered by a hollow budget that has blatantly ignored the city’s pressing industrial concerns.”
Dewan dismissed the Union Budget as an empty shell for Punjab, leaving Ludhiana’s industrial core utterly neglected. Ludhiana’s industry, already staggering under a deep financial crisis fueled by multiple factors, was in desperate need of bold and corrective action. He said that the budget offered no special package for the industry, lamenting its failure to chart a concrete roadmap for revival of the industry. “The budget completely disregarded the long-standing demands of the industrial sector and left the city’s economic backbone faltering—deprived of the critical support it so urgently needs”, he rued.
Dewan pointed out that the budget speech was utterly uninspiring, marked by a glaring lack of substance. “The speech lacked transparency, offering no clarity on allocations for critical programmes and flagship schemes”, he said, while adding that the BJP-led NDA government has “completely overlooked” the needs of Opposition-ruled states.
Intensifying his attack on the Union Government, Dewan declared that Punjab has been “betrayed” and “backstabbed” by the Modi-led Centre, leaving every section of society, from farmers to industry, feeling abandoned. He warned that without meaningful reforms and a commitment to accountability, the government’s empty rhetoric risks fuelling deeper public discontent and dragging the economy further into inertia.
