Congress Mulls 70% Representation To Youngsters In 2027 Polls, PYC President Welcomes Move

Chandigarh, January 2, 2026: Hours after Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring announced the party’s intent to introduce 60–70 young faces in the upcoming 2027 state elections, Punjab Youth Congress President Mohit Mohindra welcomed the statement wholeheartedly.

Highlighting India’s demographic dividend, Mohindra stressed that India is one of the youngest nations in the world, and this strength must be reflected in political leadership. He said, “Time has come to efficiently use the demographic dividend of the state.”

Mohit Mohindra added, “This move effectively translates into nearly 70% opportunities for young leadership, a decision that reflects the Congress party’s commitment to democratic renewal, inclusivity, and future-oriented politics. And I sincerely hope that the party will achieve this goal in both letter and spirit.”

Mohit Mohindra further emphasized that youth representation is no longer optional but essential, especially in a state like Punjab which is grappling with unemployment, drug abuse, law and order failures, and loss of trust in governance.

“The youth of this country must come forward, take responsibility, and actively participate in shaping a better Punjab and a stronger India. Punjab is in dire need of young leaders — and it needs them now,” he asserted.

He expressed concern that politics as a profession had unfortunately been maligned over the years, discouraging many capable and committed young Indians from entering public life. “It is deeply unfortunate that despite young Indians caring passionately about the future of the country, many prefer to stay miles away from Parliament and Assemblies due to the present perception of politics,” he said.

He further said that while the present AAP government has failed to fulfil its promises to the youth, the Congress party under Raja Warring’s leadership is trying to create a credible platform for young, ground-connected, and performance-driven leaders.

The Punjab Youth Congress reaffirmed its full support to the party leadership in identifying and promoting clean-image, dedicated, and people-centric young leaders who can truly represent the aspirations of Punjab in 2027.
