CM’s foreign Tour for Investment Contrasts Sharply with Punjab’s Power Crisis: Sukhjinder Randhawa

Chandigarh, April 23, 2026: Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa today raised serious concerns over the Punjab government’s priorities, pointing out the stark contrast between the Chief Minister’s ongoing Europe tour to attract industrial investment and the worsening electricity situation back home.
Randhawa stated that while the state government is showcasing Punjab as an attractive investment destination abroad, the ground reality tells a very different story, with widespread power cuts and unstable electricity supply crippling daily life and economic activity.
He remarked that uninterrupted power supply is one of the most fundamental requirements for any industrial growth, and questioned how the government expects to bring global investors to Punjab when existing businesses are struggling to operate due to frequent and unannounced outages.
“On one hand, the Chief Minister is touring Europe promising industrial growth and economic expansion, while on the other, traders, small industries, and even households in Punjab are facing prolonged power cuts. This contradiction exposes a serious gap between claims and reality,” Randhawa said.
Highlighting feedback from across the state, he noted that repeated outages, voltage fluctuations, and lack of prior scheduling have led to production losses, damaged equipment, and declining business confidence. He warned that such conditions not only hurt existing enterprises but also send a negative message to potential investors.
Randhawa emphasized that no serious investor would commit to a state where basic infrastructure like electricity cannot be assured. “Investment does not come from presentations and foreign visits alone—it depends on strong fundamentals, transparency, and reliable systems on the ground,” he added.
He also called upon the Punjab government to prioritize strengthening the power infrastructure, ensure transparency in power management, and provide a clear roadmap to address the ongoing crisis. He urged the administration to first stabilize essential services before making ambitious commitments on international platforms.
The MP further demanded that the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (Powercom) issue a detailed public statement on the current power situation, including demand-supply gaps and steps being taken to ensure uninterrupted electricity.
Concluding, Randhawa said that Punjab’s credibility as an investment destination depends on governance at home, not just outreach abroad, and urged the government to take immediate corrective measures to restore both electricity supply and public confidence.
