CME on ‘Combating Antimicrobial Resistance’ held

Ludhiana, November 21, 2021: Department of Microbiology, DMCH organised a CME on ‘Combating Antimicrobial Resistance’ today in auditorium of college campus. This CME is an important activity of Antimicrobial Awareness Week which is being conducted by Department of Microbiology, DMCH.
The  chief  guest of the occasion was Vice Principal and chief Cardiologist Dr G S  Wander along with the guest of honour Medical Supdt., Dr Ashwani K Chaudhray. Other dignitaries who present on the occasion were Dean Academics Dr Sandeep  Kaushal, Medical Supdts., Dr Sandeep Sharma and Dr Bishav Mohan. Nominated PMC member Dr Manoj Sobti was awarded two credit hours for this CME.
In his message, Secretary Sh Prem Kumar Gupta said that DMCH is committed to provide best medical care but also to create awareness and update the knowledge of health care workers and he lauded the efforts of organizing team on conducting this CME.
In his message, Principal Dr Sandeep Puri said that this CME will help to raise awareness of antimicrobial resistance and encourage the best practices among the healthcare workers and further it will help to slow the development and spread of drug-resistant infections.
Organizing Secretary, Dr Veenu Gupta (Professor & Head Microbiology) said that Microbiology Department at DMCH has the latest equipment and competent faculty to diagnose antimicrobial resistance including automated identification and drug susceptibility, molecular detection of drug  resistance bacteria and multiplex PCR based Syndromic panels for early diagnose and management of infections. 
Joint Organizing Secretary Dr Rama Gupta and Dr Jyoti Chaudhary said that Antimicrobial resistance is one of the greatest threats to human health. The purpose of organizing the CME was to update the knowledge and expertise of participating delegates about combating the antimicrobial resistance.
The faculty from various specialties from different part of the country expressed their views and shared their experiences. That included Dr Anuj Sharma (Technical officer, AMR WHO Country office for India), Dr Arti Kapil (Professor, Microbiology AIIMS Delhi) Dr Shivparkash M Rudramurthy (Professor Mycology, PGIMER Chandigarh), Dr Vikas Gautam (Professor, Microbology PGIMER Chd.) Dr Akashdeep Singh (Professor & Head chest, DMCH) explained about the diagnostic challenges and management of TB drug resistant. Panel discussion on antibiotic stewardship was conducted by Dr PL Gautam, Dr Sandeep Kaushal, Dr Veenu Gupta, Dr Vandna Midha, Dr PS Nain, Dr Vivek Gupta were the faculty members of DMCH.
The CME included the lectures, panel discussion and case based discussion to make it more interactive. The CME was attended by more than 100 delgates.
A theme based quiz competition for MBBS batch 2019 and  poster making competition was also organized for the paramedical students and winning teams were awarded  prizes.
