CMC GIVES LIFE TO A NEW BORN AMID COVID 19 CRISIS

Ludhiana: A new born baby born with Esophageal atresia in district Gurdaspur was referred to CMC as no other hospitals were open.  Esophageal atresia is congenital deformity in which food pipe (esophagus) is not formed. Child was not able to feed and swallow saliva.
Child was operated by paediatric surgery team consisting of Dr. William Bhatti, Dr. Vishal Michael, Dr. Shagufta Ali and Dr. Prashant Singh.  The reconstruction of esophagus was done and he was discharged in stable condition after 8 days of surgery.  Another neonate with the same disease from Ludhiana was operated 5 days back and discharged in a stable condition. Department of paediatric surgery is treating all congenital deformities and surgically sick children up to age of 18 yrs. The department of paediatric surgery is the only department in Punjab which is successfully running superspeciality (MCH) training program.
