Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday lays foundation stone of Government College in Benra (Sanagrur).

Benra (Sangrur), May 14, 2015: In a major step aimed at imparting quality education to the students of Sangrur and surrounding areas, the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today laid down the foundation stone of a Government College here today.

Accompanied by Cabinet Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa and the top brass of the district administration, the Chief Minister laid down the foundation stone of this college to be constructed at a cost of Rs 12 crore over five acres of land. The work on this college, which would give the much needed boost to the higher education in the region, was expected to be completed within a year.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister listed the path breaking initiatives taken by the state government for developing the education sector in the state. He said that the state government has accorded top priority to the education sector so that students could be imparted quality education in Punjab. Mr. Badal also announced that the classes in this college would be started from the next academic session.

 The Chief Minister said that due to the untiring efforts of the state government, Punjab has today emerged as a leading state in field of Education. He said that the decision of the Union government to set up Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Amritsar and Post Graduate Institute of Horticulture Research would also give much needed fillip to the education in the state.  Badal also said that the state government was spending Rs 227 crore for the renovation and upgradation of the 41 government colleges across the state.

Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included MLA Gobind Singh Longowal, Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister KJS Cheema and Deputy Commissioner Arshdeep Singh Thind.
