CICU Welcomes Historic Next-Generation GST Reforms

Ludhiana, September 4, 2025: The Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings (CICU) has wholeheartedly welcomed the announcement of the next-generation GST reforms made yesterday, calling it a landmark step for industry and society at large.
Upkar Singh Ahuja, President CICU, Honey Sethi, General Secretary CICU, and J. S. Bhogal, Organising Secretary CICU, jointly appreciated the Government’s decision and expressed confidence that these reforms will revive growth, strengthen MSMEs, and provide relief to the common man.

The major GST reductions include:
•    Auto Components: from 28% to 18%
•    Agricultural Machinery: from 12% to 5%
•    Tractor Parts: from 12% to 5%
•    Bicycle Components: from 12% to 5%

The CICU leadership highlighted that Ludhiana alone has nearly 50,000 Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 industries, which have been under pressure since COVID-19, and this reform will provide a much-needed boost to their operations and competitiveness.
They further emphasized that lower GST on daily essentials will ease the burden on households, while the rationalization of rates will help address issues of less billing, under-invoicing, and no-billing practices that have long affected the sector.
While welcoming the reforms, CICU leaders also underlined the need for the Government to address the pending issue of GST refunds to ensure timely liquidity for businesses. They added that these measures will not only energize domestic industry but also strengthen India’s position in the global market, particularly in dealing with tariff challenges from the US and other countries.
