Skill Up-gradation of the Industrial employees/workers is one of the key agenda under the Make in India, Zero Defects and Zero Effect and - Atmanirbhar Bharat - initiatives by the Government & facilitated by Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings.
 
In this regards, CICU has recognized its responsibility and organized a Training Program and 10th Competition on Poka Yoke : Human Mistake Proofing at CICU Complex, Focal Point Ludhiana. Poka-Yoke is a Japanese Concept which means mistake proofing. A Poka - Yoke is a method which prevents the defective parts from being made or assembled and easily identifies error. It was introduced by Shigeo Shingo in 1961, who was an industrial engineer at Toyota Motor Corporation. This technique helps to reduce cost of poor quality and avoid 100% inspection.
 
Rachna Jain Manager CICU in her welcome address said that there is a dire need for the up-gradation of the industry in terms of skills especially in Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises for Global Competition. Learning latest and innovative skills has become very important and skill up-gradation plays a vital role. He further said the Poka - Yoke has a very effective tool for improving productivity, quality, reducing rejections and improving safety measures. It simplifies the production process. It has proved its effectiveness in many companies. The objective of Training & Competition is to help companies, learn best practices and case studies in adopting Poka Yoke Methodology.
 
More than 80 participants for training program including of Managers, Assistant Managers and Engineers working at Assembly lines, Machines, Equipment, Tooling and Maintenance Departments, Designers, Tool Makers, Project Developers, Unit Heads attended this training program (in the morning session). The interactive and thought provoking program was conducted by the Faculty Subodh Jain, Expert facilitator having more than 28 years of rich industry experience across the automobile, FMCG and service sectors. He enlightened the participants with various error proof systems, tools and techniques of Poka Yoke for practical implementation in various types of industries. Important tips regarding day-to-day work floor problems and their solutions for use in industrial and business enterprises were also explained to participants.
 
In the afternoon Poka Yoke Competition session, 14 leading companies delegates explained the practical Poka Yoke with PPTs and videos i.e. Forge Auto International, Uniparts India Ltd., Vardhman Spinning & General Mills, Anand Groups, Forge Mach Auto Pvt. Ltd., National Industries Ltd., Shree Ram Piston, Hero Cycles Ltd., Hella India Lighting Ltd. ,Steel Strips & Wheels Ltd. & Rockman Industries Ltd. They explained their poka yoke for increasing productivity, quality and controlling the wastage and cost under the category i.e. Alarm, Control and Shutdown type Errors Proofing.
 
They also discussed the benefits of implementation of their Poka Yoke in their companies, which increase overall profitability. There was a lot of practical cross learning to the training participants as well as competition teams. Three eminent jury members Subodh Jain - Senior Consultant and Specialist in Lean Manufacturing practices, Prof. P Tharja Ph.D, Formerly Director – Principal RIEIT, Ropar and Dr. T.S. Bedi – Project Manager CICU Centre of Excellence observer for the competition program. The Jury Members appreciated the quality Poka Yoke works done by teams and advised Poka Yoke trainees to adopt and implement these practices in their respective companies for improvements. This program was coordinated by Tarsem Verma – Manager CICU and Balwinder Singh.
