CICU Leads from the Front, Champions Digital Transformation for MSMEs in Ludhiana

Ludhiana, March 27, 2026: In a significant step toward strengthening the digital ecosystem for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), a delegation from the Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings (CICU) actively participated in a high-impact workshop titled “Accelerating Digital Adoption among MSMEs”, organized by the MSME Development & Facilitation Office (DFO), Ludhiana, under the aegis of the Ministry of MSME, Government of India, in association with the Punjab Development Commission. The workshop, held at the MSME Development Institute, Industrial Area-B, Ludhiana, brought together policymakers, industry leaders, technocrats, and entrepreneurs to deliberate on the pressing need for digital transformation in the MSME sector. The event aimed to equip businesses with practical tools, strategies, and insights to enhance efficiency, competitiveness, and market reach in an increasingly digital-first economy.
The session was graced by Upkar Singh Ahuja, President of CICU, who attended as the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, he emphasized that digital adoption is no longer optional but a necessity for survival and growth in today’s industrial landscape. He highlighted how MSMEs in Ludhiana, often considered the backbone of manufacturing in Punjab, must embrace technologies such as automation, data analytics, and e-commerce platforms to remain globally competitive. Accompanying him, Dr. S.B. Singh, Joint Secretary of CICU, also participated in the workshop and closely engaged with the sessions, taking detailed note of the discussions, insights, and policy directions shared by experts.
The workshop featured a comprehensive agenda covering key aspects of digital transformation. Dr. Sanjeev Chaddha, Professor and Head MDC, MGSIPA, opened the discussions with a session on the “Digital Imperative for MSMEs,” outlining why industries must adopt digital tools to sustain growth. This was followed by Angad Singh Sohi, General Manager, DIC Ludhiana, who presented real-world case studies during the “Digital Transformation Journeys – MSMEs Speaks” session, showcasing successful adoption stories from the region. The workshop further explored practical tools for improving business efficiency, focusing on digitization of operations, inventory management, and financial processes. Experts also highlighted opportunities for MSMEs to expand their markets through digital platforms, enabling them to access national and international customers with ease.
A crucial session on cybersecurity and digital roadmap stressed the importance of safeguarding business data in an increasingly interconnected environment. Industry professionals were advised to adopt robust cybersecurity measures and create long-term digital strategies aligned with their growth plans. Among other prominent speakers were Pankaj Sharma, President ATIU; Dr. Meenu Dhiman, Former DD, SDM Punjab & Haryana; Ar. Jit Kumar Gupta, noted educationist and town planner; Adv. Sharwan Sehgal, Advocate; Dr. Jatinder Kapoor, GM, IPFC Autoparts Manufacturers Association; Dr. S.S. Gill, Professor, NITTTR; and Mastan Singh Chambyal, Chartered Accountant, who collectively enriched the discussions with their expertise across diverse domains.
Speaking to the media after the event, Upkar Singh Ahuja stated, “This workshop is a timely initiative. MSMEs must transition from traditional practices to digitally enabled systems. CICU will continue to work closely with government bodies and industry stakeholders to ensure our members are equipped with the right knowledge and tools to thrive in this digital era.”
He further added that CICU is committed to organizing similar awareness and capacity-building programs to support industries in Ludhiana and beyond.
