CICU Hosts Awareness Session on EU CBAM, Urges Industry to Prepare for Emerging Global Compliance Norms

Ludhiana, April 23, 2026: The Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings (CICU) organized an impactful awareness session on “An Exporter’s Checklist: Simplifying EU CBAM” at its Focal Point Complex, bringing together exporters, manufacturers, and industry stakeholders to deliberate on the European Union’s evolving carbon compliance framework. The session, conducted in collaboration with The Sustainability Cloud, focused on equipping industry participants with a clear understanding of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), a regulatory measure introduced by the European Union to impose carbon costs on imports of certain goods. With Europe being a key export destination for Indian engineering and manufacturing sectors, the topic drew significant attention from the local industrial community.
Atindra Chandel, Co-founder and Senior Vice President – Products & Marketing at The Sustainability Cloud, served as the keynote speaker. He provided detailed insights into the operational aspects of CBAM, its phased implementation, and the potential impact on Indian exporters. He emphasized that compliance with sustainability norms is no longer optional but a critical requirement for maintaining access to global markets. The session was structured around key themes including “Decoding CBAM,” which explained the regulatory framework and its implications; “Live Demonstration,” showcasing automated compliance tools; and “Strategic Outlook,” which highlighted actionable steps and future preparedness. The live demonstration, in particular, offered practical exposure to digital solutions designed to simplify emission reporting and compliance processes.
On the occasion, Dr. S. B. Singh, Joint Secretary of CICU, felicitated the speaker in recognition of his efforts to simplify a complex and emerging subject for the benefit of the industry. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Singh underscored the importance of timely awareness and capacity-building initiatives in helping local businesses navigate global regulatory changes. He also expressed his sincere appreciation for the leadership of Upkar Singh Ahuja, President of CICU, whose consistent encouragement has enabled the organization to host such forward-looking sessions. He noted that under his visionary guidance, CICU has been actively working to ensure that the industry remains informed, prepared, and competitive in an increasingly compliance-driven global environment.
“These initiatives are not just informative but essential for the survival and growth of our industry. With sustainability becoming a key determinant in international trade, such programs are the need of the hour,” Dr. Singh stated.
Participants lauded the session for its clarity, relevance, and practical approach. Many highlighted that the insights gained would help them initiate immediate steps towards CBAM compliance and better understand the expectations of European buyers. The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, where attendees engaged directly with the expert, addressing sector-specific concerns and gaining clarity on implementation challenges.
Through this initiative, CICU reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening industry preparedness by creating platforms for knowledge exchange and expert interaction. As global trade regulations continue to evolve, such efforts are expected to play a pivotal role in supporting Indian exporters in adapting to new norms and sustaining their presence in international markets.
