Ludhiana, June 10, 2025: Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi listened to the complaints from the people belonging to Scheduled Caste community at Dr. Ambedkar Bhawan in Ludhiana on Tuesday. 

Few of the complaints were resolved on the spot, while instructions were issued to the officials to address the remaining grievances in a time-bound manner.

After hearing the complainants, Chairman Garhi directed police and other department officials to conduct a thorough and impartial probe into all complaints and submit a report to the SC Commission promptly. He emphasized that no injustice would be tolerated against any member of the Scheduled Caste community and assured that their grievances would be resolved swiftly with appropriate justice. 

While speaking to the media, Chairman Garhi stated that he has visited Nangal village in Phillaur, where the statue of Baba Sahib was desecrated on March 31 and June 2, 2025, and held discussions with the police and district administration, as well as various social organizations. He assured the people that the culprits would be arrested within the next few days. He highlighted that those responsible for the March 31 desecration were apprehended within 24 hours and jailed. 

Chairman Garhi stated that Punjab has the highest Scheduled Caste population, approximately 35% of the state’s total population. He emphasized that the Commission is actively listening to the grievances of the Dalit community across Punjab.  He further noted that in Ludhiana, the district with the highest population in Punjab, various social organizations have been engaged in detailed discussions to promote Baba Ambedkar’s vision and the principles of the Constitution. 

On the occasion, Joint MC Commissioner Abhishek Sharma, ACP Murad Jasvir Singh Gill, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Vivek Kumar, District Welfare Officer Ranbir Singh, BDPO Khanna Gurpreet Singh, Sandeep Kumar from the Scheduled Castes Land Development and Finance Corporation Ludhiana, and other department officials.
