Central University of Punjab successfully organizes Annual Foundation Programme-II

Bathinda, June 17, 2025: The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, under the patronage of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, successfully conducted the Annual Foundation School-II from May 19 to June 14, 2025. Organized in collaboration with the National Centre for Mathematics (NCM)—a joint initiative of IIT Bombay and TIFR Mumbai—this intensive academic programme brought together 14 instructors and 12 course associates, who collectively delivered a foundational course in Algebra, Analysis, and Topology to participants from universities and institutes across India.
The valedictory session, marking the culmination of the four-week training, was held with great enthusiasm. Prof. Gauree Shanker, Organiser of the programme, presented a detailed report highlighting its objectives, structure, and the high level of participant engagement. He emphasized that the sessions were designed to be interactive, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving abilities crucial for advanced mathematical research.
Prof. Ravindra Shripad Kulkarni, former Director of the Harish-Chandra Research Institute (HRI), Prayagraj, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his inspiring address, he underlined the enduring relevance of mathematics and encouraged students to maintain a deep, sustained interest in the discipline.
Prof. Om Prakash from IIT Patna and Prof. Bankteshwar Tiwari from DST-CIMS, BHU Varanasi, attended as Guests of Honour, further enriching the occasion.
As part of the closing ceremony, certificates of participation were distributed to all attendees in recognition of their successful completion of the programme.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sachin Kumar, Head, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, who expressed his gratitude to all faculty members, students, guest speakers, and organizers for their dedicated efforts in making the programme a resounding success.
