The Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, successfully organised a Two-Week Capacity Building Programme (CBP) for Faculty on Research Methodology and Academic Writing in Social Sciences.

Bathinda, May 8, 2023: The Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, successfully organised a Two-Week Capacity Building Programme (CBP) for Faculty on Research Methodology and Academic Writing in Social Sciences. The Department of Financial Administration, School of Management conducted this programme from 24th April 2023 to 6th May 2023 at the University Campus. The Chief Guest of the Valedictory Session was Prof. Basavaprabhu Jirli, Director, Centre for Multi-Disciplinary Development Research, Karnataka.

This programme witnessed a huge number of registrations, with more than 480 applicants registered for this Programme, out of which only 37 applicants were selected as per ICSSR rules.

During this programme, twenty eminent subject experts from reputed institutes enlightened the participants on various sub-themes such as Research Types, Research Design, Data Collection Methods, Hypothesis Testing, Multivariate Data Analysis, Academic Writing, Research Proposal Writing, Hands-on Training on Research Tools and E-Library Sources.

The valedictory session commenced with the welcome address by Dr. Anand Thakur, Dean, School of Management. He presented the programme report and thanked the invited speaker for gracing the occasion.

Prof. Basavaprabhu Jirli, delivered the valedictory address on Social Science Research and Contemporary Issues. He stated that the primary challenges for social scientists pertain to sample size finalisation, respondents’ dynamic behaviour, relevance of research techniques, clarity of conceptual framework and appropriateness of tools & software. Dr. Jirli articulated emerging quantitative research methods by comparing them with qualitative research techniques. He concluded his session by explaining the errors Indian social scientists need to overcome immediately, such as irrelevant research problems, following research fads, convenience sampling, and blind data mining.

On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Tiwari stated that the university will be able to glorify its name in the research and innovation fields only when its faculty and research community produce quality research at par with international researchers. He expressed hope that the learnings of this Programme will be helpful to participants in producing high impact research publications and finding research-based innovative solutions to various problems in society.

Towards the end, spectacular cultural performances by scholars and students enhanced the value of the programme. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Prof. B.P. Garg, Registrar (I/c), and Controller of Examinations.
