Central University of Punjab organized a lecture titled “Career in Languages, Translation and beyond”

To equip students with knowledge to make informed career choices, the Central University of Punjab, under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, organized a special lecture. The distinguished speaker for the event, conducted by CUPB Dept. of English, was Ravi Kumar, Managing Director of Modlingua Learning Pvt. Ltd., who provided deeper insights into the language industry and its potential.

Bathinda, June 10, 2023: To equip students with knowledge to make informed career choices, the Central University of Punjab, under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, organized a special lecture. The distinguished speaker for the event, conducted by CUPB Dept. of English, was Ravi Kumar, Managing Director of Modlingua Learning Pvt. Ltd., who provided deeper insights into the language industry and its potential.

At the outset, Dr. Shahila Zafar, Head of the Dept. of English, welcomed the participants and introduced the esteemed speaker.

While interacting with participants, Ravi Kumar introduced the role of languages, discussed various aspects of the language industry, and emphasized its increasing significance in the era of globalization. He stated that although the internet transformed the world into a global village, but it is the language translation that helps us communicate and facilitate meaningful interaction with people who do not share a common language and culture. He shed light on career opportunities available in the field of translation, interpretation, language teaching, content localization, and beyond.

In his lecture, Ravi Kumar discussed the influence of IT and Artificial Intelligence-based Translation tools in the language industry and emphasized the need to develop critical thinking, learn different expressions, and acquire technical skills to stay competitive. He urged teachers to adopt a suitable pedagogy to develop critical thinking among learners. He emphasized the significance of accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and adaptability in the translation process. Ravi Kumar inspired participants to acquire proficiency in multiple languages to enhance their employability prospects.

On this occasion, Prof. Alpna Saini, Dean, School of Languages, Literature and Culture, expressed her gratitude towards Ravi Kumar for delivering an informative lecture that helped foster a greater understanding of the linguistic landscape among students. Towards the end, she gave a formal vote of thanks. The program was well attended by faculty members from the School of Languages, Literature, and Culture, as well as students from different departments of the university.
