Amity University Haryana celebrated the Engineers’ Day on 15 September 2022 at the premises of Amity University Haryana to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir Dr Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.

The Engineers Day was celebrated in presence of a galaxy of Engineers, Scientists, academicians, young students of engineering and science streams. The celebration aimed at various challenges being faced by the country in the areas of food, water and energy security. To address the issues, the significant contributions made by Sir M Visvesvaraya, the legend and great Civil Engineer of modern India were recalled .It was agreed that the engineering and technology should be nurtured in such a way that the society could be benefitted immensely. 

While delivering his Keynote Address    Vinod K Yadav, FIE, IRSEE, Former Chairman and first CEO, Railway Board and Ministry of Railways and former ex-officio Principal Secretary to Govt. of India advocated that Engineers can create such an environment where citizen of the country could live healthy and happy. He also shared his experiences as an electrical engineer associated with Indian Railways for around 38 years. While delivering his address, he cited various examples of the challenges being faced by the country and said that these challenges can be overcome by the engineers only. Further , he highlighted the significant developments in the Indian Railways .He informed the august gathering that Indian Railways had controlled the  fatality rate  due to train accidents ,which is a big milestone .

“After independence   Indian Railways, despite of so many challenges, is growing in terms of the necessary infrastructure, freights, operation of railway trains timely;etc and developing other facilities according to the demand of its citizens. Indian engineers are very well capable to meet the challenges”, added Yadav.

In his words of wisdom, Prof (Dr) P B Sharma, Vice Chancellor, AUH highlighted that Engineers are those who can make impossible to possible with the capabilities with them and make humanity proud of the Power of Science and the Might of Technology. Today we need engineers of great capabilities who have conviction to work with integrity for the larger interests of the society and Mother Nature. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor wished everybody present a very Happy Engineers Day.”

While delivering his welcome address    Dr HRP Yadav, Professor and Head, Civil Engineering Department outlined the life sketch of Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya and also his significant contributions for the modern India. Dr Yadav further added that Dr Visvesvaraya worked even at the age of 100 years with the same zeal and enthusiasm as he was in his young age. He said that the great nation builder and great patriot ever applied his engineering knowledge for the welfare of the mankind and the society we live in.

Speaking on the Role of Corps of Engineering in Defense Services, Maj Gen GS Bal (Retd), SM, VSM, DSW said, “Being one of the oldest arms in the Indian Army, it performs numerous tasks both in and out of combat. Engineers in this corps are also called Combat Engineers. In war theater engineers help in maintaining unit mobility by creating bridge, tracks and helipads.” He also explained to students about the selection of Engineers in Defence Services. 

Rear Admiral Kishan K Pandey, AVSM, VSM spoke about Innovation & Indigenous in the Defence Sector and in particular in the Indian Navy. He stated that the “Engineering has evolved with time and so is the case with the Indian Navy, which is a very highly Tech Savvy Service. Indian Navy has evolved over the time to produce less noisy machinery coupled with Stealth Technology, in order to avoid detection through adversaries SONARs and RADARs. A lot of innovation has gone into its design.

It is also moving constantly towards high-definition digital technology with in-built high grade Security System.”  All facets of Engineering Innovation have contributed immensely to make the Indian Navy high-tech and competitive around the Globe. 
Maj. Gen. (Dr.) JS Dhull, VSM (Retd) ,Director AIDT in his lecture ‘New Horizons of Defence Technology’highlighted the excellent  opportunities of employment in Defence sector due to great initiatives of Govt  like Atamnirbhar Bharat, Make in India and Start up India etc.

Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Sunil Sikka, Associate Professor, ASET. 

Dr Shweta Sinha and Dr Sweta Tripathi played an important role of master of ceremony during the event. Dr Khusboo Tripathi, HOI’s, HOD’s were also present with students to attend the event.
