Cancer survivors, docs take part in walkathon
Cancer survivors along with their doctors, caregivers, and volunteers took part in a Livasa Hospital, Mohali’s walkathon to mark World Cancer Day here on Wednesday.
Mohali, February 4, 2026: Cancer survivors along with their doctors, caregivers, and volunteers took part in a Livasa Hospital, Mohali’s walkathon to mark World Cancer Day here on Wednesday.
The members from Chandigarh Group of Colleges Landran, Rotary Club, Inner Wheel Club, Lions Club, Mohali Senior Citizen Association, and Chandigarh Senior Citizen Association also joined the walkathon in solidarity to support cancer awareness.
The expert-led health sessions, awareness skit, and inspiring messages highlighting resilience, strength, and survival by cancer survivors were also held during the occasion.
Speaking during a health session, Dr. Jatin Sarin, director–medical oncology, said, “Early detection remains the most powerful weapon against cancer, and this initiative helped spread that message directly to the community. Seeing people walk together for this cause reinforced our belief that awareness truly saves lives.”
Dr. Meenakshi Mittal, director–radiation oncology, shared, “The response from the public was heartening. Simple screenings and timely consultations can make a significant difference. Our aim was to empower people with practical knowledge they can carry forward.”
Cancer awareness goes beyond hospitals; it belongs in neighbourhoods and families. This walkathon helped break barriers and encouraged open conversations around cancer, asserted Dr. Vijay Bansal, director–onco surgery.
Emphasising emotional support, Dr. Shubh Mahindru, director –surgical oncology, noted, “Recovery is strengthened by compassion and collective encouragement. It was inspiring to witness such strong community solidarity.”
Dr. Priyanshu Choudhary, Senior Consultant – Medical Oncology, added, “Many cancers are curable when detected early. Events like this motivate people to seek help without delay. The turnout showed how eager communities are to learn and participate in preventive healthcare.”
Highlighting holistic care, Dr. Parneet Singh, Senior Consultant – Radiation Oncology, said, “Cancer care is not limited to treatment; it also includes awareness, reassurance, and rehabilitation. This opportunity to engage directly with people allows us to guide them toward healthier choices.”
Sharing his perspective, Dr. Mukesh Chawla, Consultant – Clinical Hematology & BMT Physician, remarked, “Preventive healthcare is the foundation of a healthier society. This programme helped us reach people before illness does.”
