Calling Sajjan Kumar a “role model” exposes Congress’ anti-Sikh mindset: Kewal Singh Dhillon

Chandigarh, August 21, 2026: Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Friday strongly condemned the remarks of Congress leaders describing Sajjan Kumar, a convict in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, as a “role model”, saying the statement had once again exposed the Congress’ anti-Sikh mindset.
Dhillon said 42 years after the horrific 1984 anti-Sikh violence, the wounds of the victims’ families were still fresh. Describing a key accused in the case as a “role model” at such a sensitive juncture was nothing short of rubbing salt into the wounds of the victims’ families and reopening their old wounds, he said.
He said the Congress’ anti-Sikh mindset deserved the strongest condemnation. “The Congress has repeatedly hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community through such statements and its conduct,” he said.
The Punjab BJP chief demanded that the Congress immediately tender an unconditional apology to the families of the 1984 victims and the Sikh community for the “irresponsible and shameful” remarks made by its leaders.
He said such statements were particularly insensitive towards the families who had waited for decades for justice and closure.
