Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Monday laid the foundation stone for the renovating 23.91 km Khanna–Malerkotla road at a cost of Rs 19.56 crore.
Khanna (Ludhiana), February 9, 2026: Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Monday laid the foundation stone for the renovating 23.91 km Khanna–Malerkotla road at a cost of Rs 19.56 crore.
Sond stated that the agency constructing the road will also maintain this stretch for five years. Once this road is completed, it will facilitate the people having safe, convenient, and faster travel facilities. He added that the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is working to strengthen basic infrastructure across the state. He emphasized that a strong road network is the backbone for agriculture, trade, and industry.
The Minister also informed that the state government is fully committed to the development of Khanna and is leaving no stone unturned. Several key projects are underway to strengthen roads, drinking water supply, health, education, and basic infrastructure, which will completely transform the Khanna. He instructed the officials to ensure the quality of development works and their timely completion, as well as to promptly address the problems of the people. The CM Flying Squads have also formed to ensure the quality of roads connecting villages and cities across the state. The squad includes senior officers from the Public Works Department and Punjab Mandi Board, who are actively inspecting road construction and repair works. He further informed that this road is a long-standing demand of the people in the area, which has now been fulfilled.
The residents of Khanna expressed satisfaction over the start of this project and thanked the Punjab Government.
