Cabinet Minister Sond lays foundation stone for bathrooms/toilets in Khanna
Rajya Sabha Member Sahney grants Rs 51 lakh for clean Khanna

Khanna, Ludhiana, August 20, 2025: Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for separate bathrooms/toilets for men and women at Lalheri Chowk to be constructed at a cost of Rs 7.5 lakh for the convenience of the public.
In his address, Sond stated that Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha Member from Punjab, Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahni, has provided a grant of Rs 51 lakh for cleanliness of Khanna city. He mentioned that out of this grant, Rs 28.3 lakh will be utilized by the Public Works Department to construct four separate bathrooms/toilets for men and women at Lalheri Chowk, Samrala Chowk, Malerkotla Chowk, and Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Chowk in Khanna for public convenience. The remaining amount from the grant will be spent in the future to further enhance the city’s beautification.
Sond highlighted that the lack of public bathrooms/toilets in city has been a long-standing issue, and keeping the public’s demand, funds have been allocated to the Public Works Department to construct these facilities in the city’s chowks. He further stated that efforts will be made to plant more trees to keep the city's environment clean and green. He also appealed to the residents of Khanna to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings and plant more trees to contribute to a greener environment.
The Cabinet Minister noted that during the Congress government’s tenure, Khanna was neglected completely and it was being mentioned as one of India’s most polluted and dirtiest cities in the newspapers but now Khanna ranks among Punjab’s cleanest and most beautiful cities.
