Book Release-cum-Discussion ceremony of book entitled “A Journey Towards Light”
The Post Graduate Department of English, Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, under the aegis of Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Council, organized a Book Release/Discussion ceremony of the book entitled “A Journey Towards Light” by Dr. Sushmindarjeet Kaur, Head, P.G. Department of English, GGN Khalsa College, Ludhiana.
Ludhiana, September 17, 2025: The Post Graduate Department of English, Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, under the aegis of Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Council, organized a Book Release/Discussion ceremony of the book entitled “A Journey Towards Light” by Dr. Sushmindarjeet Kaur, Head, P.G. Department of English, GGN Khalsa College, Ludhiana.
Dr. Hargunjot Kaur welcomed the dignitaries and said that the words written in the book have the power to transport the individual from this materialistic world to another world and hope and positivity rules her poetic reign. She said that besides editing ten books, Dr. Sushmindarjeet Kaur has authored two more books of poetry. It is a journey inward, where silence becomes prayer and sorrow becomes strength.
Dr. Mandeep Kaur shed light on the theme of the book by saying that the book is a gentle walk of the soul and its each verse carries whispers of faith, pain and longing.
Dr. S. P. Singh, former Vice-Chancellor, GNDU, Amritsar and President, Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Council, along with H. S. Narula, Honourary General Secretary, GKEC, while applauding the endeavours of the department mentioned that such activities encourage, motivate and inspire the fraternity to be more productive and utilise their idle time in honing the skills they possess. He further remarked that the book under discussion offers multi-splendored vignettes of love and compassion and her poetry blends personal experience with universal truths.
Dr. Sumedha Bhandari, Professor, Department of English, PAU, Ludhiana, while analysing the book stated that the poetry of Dr. Sushmindarjeet Kaur is not just written, but lived. Her poems reflect the deep struggles, hopes and truths of human existence. She said that her imagery comes from nature, history, everyday life and there is a divine presence guiding us.
She further remarked that the verses of the poetess delve into the very essence of existence itself.
Gurleen Kaur Sandhu, a budding poetess, in her address, said that the book is a true reflection of the poetess’s inner self. She said that the more one reads her poems the more she seems familiar to the reader. She calls her poetry meditative, written not only for herself but for every reader who dares to pause and reflect. Renowned poets and academicians, Dr. T.S. Anand, Satbir Chadha, Dr. Jernail Singh Anand, Dr. Santosh Bakaya, Vinita Agrawal, Urna Bose and Dr. Justin Pickering joined virtually and shared their reflections on the book.
On this occasion, Kuljeet Singh, Senior Vice-President, GKEC, Prof. Manjit Singh Chhabra, Director GGNIMT, Dr. Harpreet Singh, Principal, GGNIMT, the teaching fraternity and the students were present.
