National BJP leader, Advocate Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan today launched a blistering and uncompromising attack on the Punjab Government’s Budget for 2026–27 presented by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, calling it nothing less than a “black document of deception, financial destruction and political fraud against the people of Punjab.”
Ludhiana, March 9, 2026: National BJP leader, Advocate Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan today launched a blistering and uncompromising attack on the Punjab Government’s Budget for 2026–27 presented by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, calling it nothing less than a “black document of deception, financial destruction and political fraud against the people of Punjab.”
In a press statement here today Grewal said that the so-called budget of the AAP government is not a financial roadmap but a shameless bundle of lies carefully packaged to mislead the people of Punjab. He said that the Bhagwant Mann government has pushed Punjab towards an unprecedented financial disaster and the projected debt of nearly ₹4.5 lakh crore by 31 March 2027 is a frightening reflection of the government’s reckless and irresponsible governance.
Grewal said that instead of presenting a serious plan for economic recovery, the AAP government has chosen the path of cheap populism, hollow rhetoric and political gimmicks. He said that the budget is filled with exaggerated announcements but completely lacks substance, credibility and a realistic strategy to pull Punjab out of the deep financial mess created by the present regime.
Grewal said that the much-publicised announcement of ₹1,000 monthly stipend for women is nothing but a desperate and belated political gimmick aimed at fooling the mothers and sisters of Punjab ahead of elections. He said that if the government was genuinely sincere, it should have provided ₹48,000 as arrears for the 48 months since it assumed power in March 2022.
Grewal said that the hypocrisy of the government stands fully exposed because while the scheme requires approximately ₹15,000 crore, the budget has allocated only ₹9,300 crore, clearly proving that the announcement is financially hollow and politically dishonest. He said that the registration conditions attached to the scheme are another trick to delay implementation and deprive women of the promised benefits.
Grewal said that the budget is a complete betrayal of Punjab’s farmers, labourers, youth and employees. He said that the agricultural sector, which is the backbone of Punjab’s economy, has been shamefully ignored. No serious policy has been announced to address the agrarian crisis, stop farmer suicides or provide long-term agricultural stability.
Grewal said that the youth of Punjab have also been deceived as the government has failed to provide any credible framework for the promised unemployment allowance or large-scale job creation. He added that infrastructure development, healthcare and economic growth have also been treated with shocking negligence in the budget.
Grewal said that the AAP government has mastered the art of manipulating statistics and presenting Central Government schemes as its own achievements. He said that major infrastructure projects, housing schemes for the poor and development initiatives are largely funded by the Central Government, yet the Punjab government continues to falsely claim credit for them.
Grewal said that the government has also betrayed employees and pensioners by failing to make proper budgetary provisions for the Old Pension Scheme and pending Dearness Allowance installments, which has created deep resentment among government staff.
Grewal said that the most alarming aspect of the budget is the dangerous fiscal trajectory being created by the present regime. He said that when nearly 91 percent of the state’s income is already being consumed by salaries, pensions and debt servicing, the government’s reckless borrowing will soon push Punjab towards a full-scale economic collapse.
Grewal said that the AAP government’s budget is not a development document but a political propaganda paper drafted purely with upcoming elections in mind. He said that the government has deliberately ignored the expectations of farmers, labourers, employees, youth and pensioners, proving that it is completely disconnected from ground realities.
Grewal said that the people of Punjab are intelligent and will not be fooled by such deceptive financial theatrics and hollow populism. He said that the budget stands exposed as a document of financial mismanagement, administrative arrogance and political dishonesty.
Grewal said that the AAP government must answer the people of Punjab about how it plans to fund its unrealistic promises while pushing the state deeper into debt and economic instability.
Grewal said that the truth is simple and brutal: this budget does not save Punjab, it threatens to uproot its very financial foundations. He said that the people of Punjab will soon hold this government accountable for its failures, deception and disastrous economic policies.
