Chandigarh, December 9, 2021: The BJP (Punjab) has extended its support to the struggling teachers of Punjab, & Chandigarh in their fight for the implementation of UGC pay-scales w.e.f.1.1.2016 and also expressed its displeasure at the decision of the Punjab govt. to delink teachers’ pay scales from the nationally accepted UGC pay scales.
Vineet Joshi, Senior BJP leader and spokesperson (Punjab) termed the delay in the notification of teachers’ pay-scales as completely unjustifiable. He said that it was on Nov 2, 2017 that the MHRD notified the 7th CPC- UGC pay-scales for teachers in higher education. At that time, teachers were given to understand that their pay-scales would be implemented when the Punjab 6th Pay Commission would be notified. Now, that the award of the commission had been implemented in Punjab and Chandigarh, teachers felt betrayed and distressed that no action had been taken with regard to granting them UGC pay-scales.
All other states had implemented the new UGC pay-scales for their teachers. The teachers of Punjab and Chandigarh were the only ones still awaiting the implementation of the UGC pay-scales.
He urged the state govt. to immediately notify the new scales and withdraw the decision on delinking of the scales from the UGC so that Dr H S Kingra, President, PFUCTO is able to end his fast unto death and the disruption in academic work comes to an halt and students are able to return to their classes.
