Ludhiana, April 29, 2026: In a significant initiative aimed at promoting quality standards and strengthening the competitiveness of MSMEs, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Chandigarh Branch Office, organized an MSME Stakeholder Meeting on April 29, 2026, at the Conference Hall of Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings (CICU), Ludhiana, in association with CICU.
The meeting witnessed enthusiastic participation from representatives of MSME industries from various sectors, reflecting the growing interest among entrepreneurs in quality certification, product compliance, and standardization practices. The objective of the program was to spread awareness regarding BIS certification procedures, benefits of standardization, and the various support schemes available for MSMEs.
The session commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. S.B. Singh of CICU, who apprised the participants about the importance of such awareness programs in today’s highly competitive industrial environment. He highlighted that adoption of quality standards is no longer optional but essential for growth, exports, customer trust, and long-term sustainability of MSMEs.
The Chief Guest for the event was Pankaj Kumar Jha, Deputy Director, MSME Ludhiana, who formally inaugurated the program. Addressing the gathering, he shared valuable insights regarding government schemes and initiatives linked to BIS certification for MSMEs. He emphasized that quality certification not only enhances market credibility but also opens doors to national and international business opportunities. He encouraged industrial units to actively adopt standards-driven manufacturing practices.
A comprehensive technical presentation was delivered by Abhishek Kumar, Joint Director, BIS, who elaborated on key aspects including BIS certification procedures, marking fee structure, laboratory testing systems, and the various activities undertaken by BIS for industrial development. He also gave a live walkthrough of the BIS website, helping manufacturers understand the digital application process, available resources, and online services.
During the interactive session, Harsh Sonkar, Deputy Director, addressed several queries raised by participants and offered practical clarifications on certification requirements, compliance norms, timelines, and procedural matters. The engaging discussion provided valuable guidance to industries planning to obtain BIS certification.
The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. S.B. Singh, who expressed sincere gratitude to BIS officials, the Chief Guest, industry representatives, and all stakeholders for making the session highly productive. He also offered constructive suggestions to further simplify certification procedures and strengthen engagement between BIS and the industrial community.
